Fines, charges, plates and permits

Leasing is a very easy way to drive a new vehicle. But it can sometimes make administration a little more complicated. In this section, we explain how it works if you pick up a fine, need a permit or want to put personalised plates on your vehicle.

Cherished (personalised) plates

Do you have a cherished or personalised plate and want to include it on your Ayvens vehicle? Not a problem. It just depends on who has the V5c (logbook). Here’s how it works.

If Ayvens has the V5c (log book)

For personal vehicles and company vehicles where we hold the log book, we’ll sort this out with the DVLA for you. There will be an administration fee that needs to be paid within 28 days from the date we send you the invoice.

To get started, just get in touch with us and make sure you provide:

  1. Your email address.

  2. A scanned copy of your signed retention document or certificate of entitlement.

  3. The current registration number (age-related plate) on the vehicle.

  4. Your account reference number.

We’ll then contact the DVLA to make the required changes and when it’s done you will receive a confirmation email for the plate transfer from the DVLA. At this point, you’ll have three days to arrange for the new plates to be made, added to the vehicle and to notify your insurer.

If you or your company has the log book

You can arrange everything with the DVLA yourself and just let us know once the plate has been changed. You can either call or email, but please make sure you tell us:

  1. The previous registration number (age-related plate) on the vehicle.

  2. The cherished plate that has been added.

  3. Your account reference number.

At the end of the contract

At the end of the contract

When your lease is almost over, you’ll need to have the plate removed before you arrange for your vehicle to be collected. You’ll have to pay £80 (including VAT) to the DVLA for them to place a cherished plate on retention, but there’s no administration fee from us. Please allow eight weeks for processing if you require the retention document to be returned in your name.

Fines and charges

Depending on what sort of fine or charge it is and what sort of lease you have, you might get the fine directly, it might go to your company or it might come to us.

Anything that goes directly to you or your company can be handled by you. We don’t need to get involved.

When a fine or charge comes to us, we’ll redirect it to you if we can. If we can’t, we’ll pay it and invoice you. To appeal one of these fines or charges, you’ll need to contact the fine or charging authority directly, but please speak to us first so we can give you a third-party letter to provide to them.

If it’s a company vehicle and you weren’t driving it when the charge or fine was incurred, please speak to your fleet manager.

Parking permits

Parking permits

When you need a parking permit for a lease vehicle, it’s likely the issuer will want a letter confirming you are the driver. To get this, please just contact the Driverline. There may be an administration fee associated with this, so please check with the team.
