Tyre care, repair and replacement

Your tyres keep you safe on the road, so it pays to check pressure, tread depth and alignment regularly. And if you have our maintenance service, we’ll get your tyres replaced whenever necessary.

Getting new tyres

If your lease includes a maintenance agreement, we'll replace your tyres whenever they’re damaged, punctured or have tread below 2mm. Most of the time, this won’t cost you anything extra, but there can be an additional charge if the damage is outside general wear and tear. For example, we might charge for tyre wall damage caused by hitting the curb. Just make sure you book the work with us, as we may not cover you if you go directly to a tyre fitter.

Need to know what tyres you have?

Different vehicles have different tyres, so there may be times when you need to know what you have. To find out, just check the side of your tyres and you should see a code there that tells you the width, profile, size, load index and speed rating. It should look something like 205/55 R17 96W.

Before your tyres are replaced or repaired

It’s likely your tyres will have locking wheel nuts. Make sure you know where the key for these nuts is, as the fitter will need it to remove them. There isn’t one standard type, so it could lead to delays if you don’t have it available when needed.

Looking after your tyres

  1. Pressure

Try to check your tyre pressures when they’re cold at least once a month. You can do this using a pressure gauge or at a service station. The correct inflation can normally be found inside your car or van door or inside the fuel opening. If you have a tyre pressure monitoring system in your car or van and it goes off, please don’t ignore it, as underinflated tyres have reduced grip and can cause blowouts.

  2. Tread

When you check pressure, it’s worth checking tread as well. The legal requirement is 1.6mm all the way round, but we change tyres at 2mm as we think this is safer. You can check tread depth using a tool, but your tyres may also have tread wear indicators that show you how worn they are.
