Electric Driving - Charging
If you have a home charger, the grid operator will require you to register it. To do this, you need to contact your network operator directly.
No, the installation of a home charging station is only possible in Luxembourg.
To charge your electric vehicle, you will need a charging station, a charging cable and a charging card.
No, but you must inform your insurer.
Ayvens offers two charging solutions to charge your electric vehicle:
- Home Pro fixed cable: charger with 4.5m cable and Dynamic Load Balancing. STRD Included: Moving, Working Hours, Wall Installation, 1 Penetration, 10m Power Cable & 15m UTP Cable, Small Equipment, Extra Cabinet, Fuse, Three Phase (Ready For) & Inspection.
- Home Pro plug: charger with 8m free cable and dynamic load balancing. Standard incl. : moving, working hours, wall installation, 1 penetration, 10m power and 15m UTP cable, small equipment, extra cabinet, fuse, three-phase (ready for) and inspection.
It is possible to give other charging cards access to the charging station using a technique known as 'whitelisting'. The whitelist ensures that the charging station can recognise the charging card and start a charging session.
Your current power supply will probably be sufficient, as your car is charged mainly at night, when you are not using other electrical appliances. Your charging station can be programmed to operate at the right power and at the right time to avoid any potential overloading of your power grid as much as possible.
Fast chargers are quite comparable to standard chargers. As the name suggests, they allow for faster charging. The main difference is the use of direct currents. With direct currents, the vehicle's transducer is not used, but the battery is charged directly by the charging station. This allows for much higher charging speeds than with alternating currents.
The main differences:
- Charges to 80% in half an hour
- The cable is attached to the charging station, so you don't use your own cable.
- Charging with direct currents rather than alternating currents
This depends on several factors: the type of vehicle, the level of battery discharge, the charging speed of your vehicle, and the charging point chosen. If you charge your car at a regular power outlet, you should be able to count on 24 hours. At a public charging point, this time is 4 to 8 hours. If you charge your car using a fast charger (which you'll mostly find along highways), your battery will be 80% charged in 30 minutes. Keep in mind that charging at such a fast charger is more expensive than at a normal charging station.
Plan ahead - Before you hit the road, it's important to know where you're going and check if your destination has a charging station.
At home, you can charge your car in two ways:
- At a home charging station: the sockets are specially designed for charging electric vehicles, which allows for higher currents and therefore faster charging of the car.
- On a regular socket: To ensure that the socket is properly protected, a safety device has been integrated into the charging cable. However, there is one condition: the socket must be equipped with a compliant grounding system.
On the road, you have the following options:
- public charging station that you can find in the charging app.
- Fast charger: This is mostly found along highways. In some cases, they can charge the battery to 80% in about 30 minutes.
No, the provision of the charging station at home and the reimbursement of electricity do not affect the benefit in kind of the vehicle. However, to ensure that the reimbursement only applies to the company car, the home charging station must be equipped with a communication system that allows the amount of electricity used to be transmitted to the employer.
You connect the electric car to the charging station using the charging cable. With your charging card, you can log in and start charging. Charging fees are charged periodically by the charging card provider.
Prices vary from one charging point to another. Depending on the charging station operator, prices may be based on:
- 1.
Start-up Costs (One-time) The operator charges a fee for starting a charging session. Start-up costs can be combined with other pricing models.
- 2.
Pay-per-minute billing The operator sets the bill based on the time your car is connected to the charging station. This means that you pay if you are parked at the charging station, even after the charging has ended. For charging stations that use this system, you will see the following note in our app: "the fee applies as long as your car is connected to the charging station, even if the charging process is already stopped".
- 3.
Billing per kWh and based on time This operator charges for its charging sessions on the basis of kWh consumption in combination with the parking time at the charging station.
In any case, the cost of charging your car is invoiced to your employer via Ayvens. We recommend that you check the prices on our app or website before each charging process. Charging with fast chargers, for example, is much more expensive than charging at normal charging stations. Before connecting to a fast charger, check if the speed advantage is worth it compared to the higher costs. Also, agree with your employer on what is allowed and what is not.
The home charger remains the property of Ayvens for the duration of the rental agreement. However, in the event of a move, Ayvens transfers ownership to you or to the owner of the property where the charging station is installed. The remaining payments for the charger will be settled with your employer. Check with your fleet manager to find out how these costs will be covered or check your car insurance policy for more information.
Ownership of the charging station will be transferred to your colleague or to the owner of the building where the charging station is installed. If you would like to have a charging station yourself, a new charging station will be installed at your home.
The smart cable is included in the rental agreement. This is an accessory that must be returned with the car.
The charging station is owned by Ayvens. If you move or return your car, ownership of the charger will pass to you or to the owner of the home where the charger is installed. Any remaining payments for the charger will be settled with your employer. Check with your fleet manager to see how these costs will be covered or check with your car insurance policy for more information.
Connectivity ensures that the home charger is online and can be controlled by the charging point operator (CPO). It gives the driver access to the charging point operator's online platform, which provides an overview of the charging sessions. Connectivity also allows the charging point operator to provide remote technical support. Connectivity also makes it possible to record and reimburse home charging sessions.
Dynamic load balancing ensures optimal energy distribution across the grid, so that there is no overload and the vehicle can always be optimally charged. You can determine the charging speed yourself.
The charging session usually stops as soon as the car is fully charged.
Please note: some providers have a pricing structure where you pay by the minute. This means that even when your car is fully charged, you have to pay the price per minute (often referred to as a "parking fee"). Think about this before parking your car for a long time. It's best to move your car as soon as charging is complete. This will free up the charging station for the next driver.
If the charging cable is connected to a charging station, follow these instructions:
- 1.Wait a while and start again
- 2.Use the car's emergency release button. The location of this button is described in the car's manual.
- 3.Look for an emergency release button on the station (only a few station models have this button).
- 4.If all of the above steps do not resolve the issue, call the charging station operator. You can find the hotline number at the charging station or in our app. Please note that we do not own or operate any charging stations and do not have external access to these stations. Only the operator has remote access to the station.
Hold the charging key at the indicated connection point and the charging session will start after a few seconds.
Our advice before charging:
- We recommend that you check the prices on our app before each charge.
- Charging on fast chargers is much more expensive than charging on normal charging stations. Before connecting to a fast charger, check if the speed advantage is worth it compared to the higher costs.
When your car is fully charged, the charging session ends automatically.
To end a charging session early:
- If you are using the charging key: Hold the charging key against the dock to end the charging session.
- If you are using the app: click on the "stop" button to end the charging session.
Our advice before charging:
- We recommend that you check the prices on our app before each charging session.
- Charging at fast chargers is much more expensive than charging at normal charging stations. Before connecting to a fast charger, check if the speed benefit is worth it compared to the higher cost.
Before reporting a problem, check to see if:
- The cable is correctly positioned. If this is the case and the car still won't charge, stop the session and start again.
- The internet connection works when you use the app.
Still having problems?
- Please contact the supplier if the charging station is not working or if there is a problem with the charging station itself. The hotline number can be found directly on the station or in our app.
- Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any problems with the app or with your charging key.
Do you have a driveway, garage or private parking? Are you a landlord or a tenant? Can you act independently as a landlord or do you need to consult a homeowners association? In addition, it is best to consider the voltage of the electrical grid on your street. This has an influence on the charging speed of your car.
Your home charger and charging card are registered in your name. To use the home charger, you need to register with your charging card. A charge card other than yours will not be accepted.
You can add users or charging cards on the online platform of your charging point. Please refer to the manual or contact the operator of your charging point.
We apply the tariff of the average price of electricity in Belgium, published by the CREG (Commission de régulation de l'électricité et du gaz). Due to the late publication of the CREG tariff, you will be reimbursed at the current rate two months before the recharge period. For billing sessions in March, the average rate for the month of January will be applied.
When you charge your vehicle at home at a charging station, the data from your home charging session is stored in the device. At the same time, the device communicates via the internet with the charging point operator (CPO), e.g. the charging station provider.
When the connection is poor or lost, it is possible that the charging point operator does not have all the data at that time to issue a full refund. So there may be a difference between what you get reimbursed and what you will find (later) on the CPO portal or app. However, data stored during a home charging session is not lost. As soon as the internet connection is restored, the home charger sends the missing data. The next refund will then include those missing sessions
We recommend that you get in touch with your current service provider and discuss your refund options. It's possible that you can set up a subscription that allows you to be reimbursed directly by your current provider – whether you're using an Ayvens recharge card or a card issued by your current provider.
Ayvens has agreed on a fixed price for standard installations, but any installation requests outside of this scope will be charged according to the situation. Contact Ayvens to request a component switch.
Differences Between Charging Station Owners Each charging station owner can set their own charging rate for their charging station. As a result, the cost of charging sessions may vary from one charging station to another.
Connection fees differ Many stations charge a fee (usually per minute) for the time you stay connected while the car is no longer charging. This fee is called a connection fee. The reason for this is that the number of public charging stations is still limited and a car that does not charge occupies the service, so to speak, preventing other people from using it.
Your domestic consumption can be billed monthly to your employer and reimbursed to you.
Your charging station or cable is equipped with a "smart meter" that tracks consumption. This allows for the automatic counting of charging sessions, including with your employer or company.
According to the Highway Code, it is in principle forbidden to cause annoyance to other road users, i.e. simply laying the charging cables across the road. However, municipal police regulations may allow this, under certain conditions. So check with your municipality.
Each car can be driven for a maximum number of kilometres and a maximum duration. The maximum duration of our contracts is always 5 years (60 months). The maximum number of kilometres may vary from car to car, but can never exceed 200,000 kilometres over the total term of the contract. Based on these two parameters, we can always discuss with you what is possible.
Traffic fines and fuel. Optionally, you can order a national or European fuel card from us with your leasing contract.
You can call or leave a message and we will contact you. You can find the different options on our contact page.
