EV home charging
What's the best charging solution for your living situation?
There are two different ways to recharge your electric vehicle at home - one, is by using a standard wall socket and the second is with a residential EV charging station.
Standard wall socket
When you connect your EV to a normal 3-pin socket in your house to charge up, loading is slower, so fully charging even a 40kW battery can take almost 17 hours. This can be more than enough when spending some time at a remote location during a weekend away.
Home charging station
By far the most convenient and fast solution is to install a home charger. The time it takes to fully charge is based on the level, or speed, of charging and how full the battery is when you start.
Residential EV charging stations
The most convenient way to charge
Safe, convenient, and easy to use, a residential charging station lets you recharge your car while you eat, play, and sleep. Just plug your EV in when you get home, start charging sessions via your charge card, or schedule charging for a certain time of day and be ready to go in the morning.
Can I install a home charger?
That depends on your situation.
- I rent a house with parking on private land
Contact your landlord and ask about the possibilities.
- I own a house with parking on private land
No problem! You can arrange for a private charging point suited to your technical specifications.
- I'm part of a homeowners association
You'll probably need to get permission, but it's still a possibility. Also, you'll need to assess if your building has technical capabilities to support charger installation. Several parties are involved, so the process may take a bit longer. Sometimes extra facilities may also be necessary, to enable data exchange with the charging point.
- I own or rent a home with no parking on private land
You can sometimes request a charging point in your area via your municipality. Every municipality deals with this differently. Contact your own municipality to inquire about the possibilities and conditions.
