Mazda-—the celebration of driving with a winning formula

Based in Hiroshima, Japan, Mazda Motor Corporation started life back in 1920 as a cork manufacturer called the Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. Triggered by the production of machine tools, motorcycles and more ambitious manufacturing over the previous three years, Toyo Kogyo transformed into a car manufacturer, and released a tricycle truck called ‘Mazda-go’ in 1931. The name ‘Mazda’ stands for ‘harmony, intelligence and wisdom, and the renamed company launched its first passenger car, the R360 Coupe, in 1960. Seven years later, Mazda introduced the world’s first rotary engine automobile, the Cosmo Sport 110S, described as the ‘flying’ car. Today, Mazda continues to break the barriers of convention and strives to create cars previously unimagined.
