What to do immediately after an accident

DOs

DO stop and turn off your engine.

However minor you think the accident is, you must stop. It’s an offence if you don’t.

DO turn on your hazard warning lights to warn other road users.

DO move away from the immediate area of the accident and find a safe location to stand if you are uninjured.

DO identify your location.

DO call the emergency services if:

DO NOTs

DO NOT move injured people unless the emergency services tell you to do it.

DO NOT remove a motorcyclist’s helmet.

DO NOT accept blame for an incident, as it may not be obvious who was responsible or what the extent of liability is.

DO NOT smoke or allow others to do so.

DO NOT accept any offers or cash alternatives to avoid insurance claims.

Details to record

If it’s safe, record details from the scene, including:

  1. Names, addresses and contact numbers of any drivers and witnesses.

  2. The number of passengers involved and any injuries sustained by yourself and others.

  3. Registrations and insurance details of those involved.

  4. Details of any police officers who attend.

  5. The damage to vehicles.

  6. Time and date.

  7. Weather conditions and anything unusual about the road quality or lighting.

  8. A sketch or photograph of the positions of the vehicles involved.

Break-ins or theft

Call POLICE on 101 first then call Ayvens Insurance or your insurance company

For theft or damage due to a break-in, you should first file a report with the police at www.police.uk or by calling 101. Then, call us. If you're not insured with Ayvens Insurance, please inform your insurance company as well.

Glass

Chips in your windscreen need to be repaired or they can easily become cracks. And cracks can be dangerous to your and your passengers – and they might mean you fail your MOT.

Our maintenance service only includes glass repair or replacement if it’s an option you’ve added. If you have, just contact our team and we’ll arrange the repair.

If you haven’t got glass include in your contract, contact your insurance provider as glass may be covered under your policy.

If you notice damage on your vehicle

It is important you report this by calling: 0345 250 0000. You could be charged for damage that's not compliant with Fair Wear and Tear when you return your vehicle in accordance with your hire agreement.
